Consulting

Our goal is to see deep and lasting transformation in the businesses and families we serve. Knowing the importance of getting the right fit, we are discerning about whom we serve.

Who we SERVE

You may be a good fit for us if the following are true:

  1. Family or closely held businesses

  2. Minimum annual revenue of $10M up to $1BN

  3. Industry agnostic - we serve a range of clients including food, industrial, entertainment, service, distribution, construction, and manufacturing

  4. Ownership is held in any generation - most commonly, generations 1 to 5

  5. The owners and/or future owners are seeking to find their way through generational transition, considering selling the business, or preparing for new growth - or the most common answer - a messy undefined combination of “all of the above”

  6. Struggling to resolve complexity in the business and/or the family

Helping owners navigate transition

Our specialty is working with clients who are almost always dealing with “below the surface” undercurrents. Many times these hidden undercurrents are at cross purposes to the stated business and/or family goals.

These hazards include:

  • Lack of shared knowledge or understanding among owners

  • Having hopes and aspirations, but little shared strategy or plans

  • Family conflict (past, present or potential)

  • Power, authority, control, influence (PACI) issues

  • Ill-considered historical transition that has left new owners struggling to find their feet while dealing with cultural legacy and expectations

  • Partial, but stalled transitions that have created tension or imbalance between management and ownership

  • A historically healthy business, now unable to meet the goals of shareholders (past, present, and future)

You may be reading this and thinking, “but I am not the decision maker”. That is normal. We are often introduced to the situation by way of a next generation family member, sibling, spouse and/or trusted advisor. We are highly adept at navigating these exploratory conversations with all of their nuance and challenges.
